I received the most amazing email from a friend attending the annual conference for the National Council of Teachers of English two weekends ago with this picture:
According to the NCTE website,
The NCTE Charlotte Huck Award® for Outstanding Fiction for Children was established in 2014 to promote and recognize excellence in the writing of fiction for children. This award recognizes fiction that has the potential to transform children’s lives by inviting compassion, imagination, and wonder.
I’m honored and thrilled to learn that Wayward Creatures has been selected as the winner of the 2023 Charlotte Huck Award for Outstanding Fiction for Children! It’s a dream to have this book recognized as having the potential to transform children’s lives “by inviting compassion, imagination, and wonder,” and by an organization of professionals whose job is to do the same. Thank you to the National Council of Teachers of English and all the English teachers spreading the joy of reading to children around the country.
