Cover of Wayward Creatures

My next book!

My next middle grade novel, Wayward Creatures, releases on Tuesday! I am so excited to share this book with all you wonderful readers! It’s about friendship and family and struggling through hard times, both inside and outside yourself. It’s about the power of restorative practices, both for the natural world and a community. And it’s about a boy, Gabe, and a young coyote, Rill.

In a starred review, Kirkus said: “This riveting, many-layered story shines on all levels. Gabe’s first-person narration brilliantly (and with humor) captures the tone of an angry, confused tween without being over the top, and his metamorphosis from powerless to empowered is both realistic and compelling. The coyote’s story adds depth and poignancy….As a story about community, healing, and family—both human and animal—this is one of the best.”

I have a bunch of wonderful virtual launch events scheduled with some amazing partners! On Tuesday, 1/18 at 7pm EST NYT-bestselling author Chris Tebbetts and I will chat about the book and balancing humor and the hard stuff in middle grade fiction. Register for the event with the Flying Pig Bookstore!

On Thursday, 1/20 at 7pm EST my wonderful critique partner and awesome author Margot Harrison will be moderating a conversation with me and Rachel Jolly and Kelly Ahrens of the Burlington Community Justice Center about Restorative Justice in the real world and in fiction. Sign up for the virtual event with Phoenix Books!

And finally, on Wednesday, 1/26 at 6pm EST, join me and bestselling author of the Wings of Fire series, Tui T. Sutherland, to chat about all things animal! Register at the Blue Willow Bookshop!

Order from one of these venues to get a *signed* copy! Or preorder wherever you like to get your books, but especially from a local independent bookstore!

If you’d like to learn more about the book, here’s a book trailer I made!
